Medicine Is Becoming More Personal. Healthcare Is Finally Catching Up.

For decades, two patients diagnosed with the same disease often received the same treatment. Sometimes it worked remarkably well. Sometimes it produced only limited results. And in other cases, it caused unwanted side effects without delivering the expected benefits.

Researchers have spent years trying to understand why.

The answer, in many cases, lies in the fact that diseases are rarely identical from one patient to another. Differences in genetics, lifestyle, metabolism, and even environmental exposure can influence how the body responds to treatment. This realization has gradually changed one of healthcare's oldest assumptions—that one treatment fits everyone.
